My work mobilizes an ethnographic lens to critically examine our consensus about Nature-Culture, the aesthetic practices pertaining to humanity vs animality, and the politics and poetics of aquatic infrastructure in the Asia Pacific world - where capitalism presents itself as a historical complex entangled with uneven-development.

My book manuscript, Flora and Fauna: Private Collecting and Domestic Nature in Reform Era Beijing, is in contract with Palgrave Macmillan. The book explores the ways in which ordinary Beijing residents engage with heritage aesthetics of domestic nature by cultivating insects, fishes, plants and birds at home. The book interrogates the Euro-American modern consensus of humanity and animality as two separated realms of life. Instead, it shows a form of domestic nature that which allows political affects - such as the sense of personal and regional sovereignty - as well as opinions about history can be embodied and performed in the otherwise tightly censored contemporary China under the authoritarian regime.
